Glaucoma diagnostics involve a set of tests and technologies used to detect glaucoma — a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve and can lead to vision loss. Early diagnosis is critical because glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.
Common diagnostic methods include measuring intraocular pressure (tonometry), examining the optic nerve through imaging (optical coherence tomography or OCT), and testing peripheral vision using visual field tests. Gonioscopy, which examines the drainage angle of the eye, is also important for determining the type of glaucoma.
